friends won't let friends see... space chimps
I actually mulled this one over for a while. The premise had promise, in an absurdist kind of way. I guess I thought there was the chance that it could end up being campy and cool.
So today I watched the trailer and... yeah. It's vapid slapstick. Doesn't seem to be worth the film stock it's shot on.
Decide for yourself (trailer after the jump), but I vote "no".

I think you instead need to direct your ire towards "Fly Me To the Moon," the awful-looking Alvin and the Chipmunks (in space) ripoff starring three flies: a "cool" one, a "smart" one named IQ, and a "fat" one.
Kill me quickly.

Thanks for the tip. I think I've also heard of that one, but seem to have mentally blocked it. So I guess I have you to thank for reexposing me to the horror... or something like that.

I really miss the old fashioned animation. I wasn't done with it yet. Who decided that computer animation was better? I think that's why I'm so excited about Disney's The Princess and The Frog which is due out in 2009.

I'm with you, David. For example, I'm way more into the old-school puppet Yoda than the newfangled CGI Yoda, killer combat moves and all.

Yes, I'm sure this sucks the long one, which is too bad as chimps in space could be rad. I would direct everyone to read the Filth
by Grant Morrison which features Dmitri-9, a Russian space chimp who is now employed as an assassin (he shot JFK too).

Chimps in space could be rad. It always seems though, when I'm fascinated by a movie's premise, I'm inevitably disappointed.

Hmmm... how about THIS one:

Like you, the idea of Chimps in Space was golden. Then I saw that trailer. I don't think the idea developed beyond the initial 'hey let's put chimps in space!' thought.
Movies like this are why an awesome animated adaptation of Filth will never get made.

tony... Ew! No! Did we learn nothing from Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd???
wayward... It's a one-joke movie. And as fantastic as the one joke is... they didn't seem to bother with developing it. Oh, well.

But the children - think about the children...

This will piss off the flamers, but...
in this case...
Screw the children.
Sorry.

I have children. I made them leave the room while I played the trailer. Not without cause, as I discovered. In this case, it would be more humane to screw the children than to expose them to this travesty. When did Hollywood decide that America was better off deprived of all intellectual thought?

Word, Meli. My baby sis, everyone!
