postlet #20

Will somebody please explain to me what is the big flippin' deal about Twitter? The media can't seem to shut up about it. I tried it long ago, and never got anything out of it. Truth be told, I am much more Facebooky. But seriously, if there's a reason I should care about this Twitter thing, would you please let me know?

Sorry - can't help. I don't get it, either. It seems like they took just one aspect of Facebook/MySpace (updates) and turned it into a whole company. But since I'm ignorant and haven't even been to it, I could be wrong. Do they have the 2 million other apps and uses, too?

    Anyone?

Start alive twitter feed and subscribe to a quality poster you like. Wil Wheaton makes me laugh out loud once a day ( http://twitter.com/wilw ). http://twitter.com/warrenellis is a great writer and a fun twitterer. Strange insight into your meatspace friends is great too.

I *love* twitter. I usually describe it as if facebook was only your status line.

One this that is awesome about twitter, as that you can 'follow' anyone (that doesn't have their updates protected). Some people are follow are LeVar Burton, Wes Craven and the best is David Lynch - who has weather updates.

I find it's also a great way to reach out to other online film journalist/blogger folks and connect. You hear their fresh first impressions of films, can quickly ask questions, suggestions or advice. Within seconds I've received advice on what is a good TV, confirmation on what Watchmen was an adaptation from or recommendation for music-ish database sites.

There are some really funny people on there, like Wil Wheaton as Valis said.

It takes a while to build a base of folks to follow and there can be some underlying ettiquite. But that is similiar but different to blogging.

If you wanna try it again, I'd say make an account then follow anyone on your blogroll that has twitter. Check out who they follow, and who they follow.

I forgot to say - I'm totally on the other side of the fence. I don't really like Facebook - I use it to connect with friends and see what they are up to, be available for invites, etc.

I get so tired of the consistant applications 'you have to agree to this' to proceed, the lenghty TSA and the ads 'for your target demographic' along the sides. The are using your info to promo directly to you. None of that in Twitter.

Also, lots of workplaces block Facebook :(

Well, I have both facebook and twitter.
I can see twitter's potential and will probably be the next big thing to be on. But still, like you I'm currently sticking with facebook.
